Artificial Life is a field of study that deals with the examination of living systems, processes and their evolution through simulations using computational models, robotics and biochemistry. Discipline was so named by Christopher Langton in 1986.
There are three main types of artificial life, soft, software word originated from; hardware, the hardware and the “wet” in biochemistry. (In the left picture from the movie “I, Robot”)

Artificial Life mimic biology, trying to recreate biological phenomena.
Artificial Life studying living systems logic in artificial environments. The goal is to understand complex information that defines these systems. Usually, the term “artificial life” refers to an environment and a digital existence.
Philosophically speaking, artificial life research beyond the borders “of the world as we know it”, up to the idea of life “as it could be.”
A traditional model of a biological system will be focused on the most important parameters, but an artificial life model search for the simplest and general principles that lie behind life and to implement them in a simulation. This simulation can then analyze the different systems of life.
Currently, the definition does not consider life simulation computer software as being alive and not part of the evolutionary process in any ecosystem. Furthermore, it is difficult to accept the existence of life outside an artificial chemical solutions. So it can be achieved with current technology artificial life?
“Artificial Chemistry”
Artificial chemistry models used to simulate various types of systems. It is similar to the reactions chemical, where he comes from the name. The field of artificial chemistry originated in artificial life, but has been shown to be a versatile method with applications in many fields such as chemistry, economics, sociology and even language.
There are several types of artificial chemistry. Depending on the space of possible molecules can be finite or infinite, as reactions can be a catalytic or reactive system, or by spatial topology.

Artificial Chemistry went as a sub-field of artificial life. The idea behind it was that the combination of non-living entities, showing a living entity. For example, if a cell is alive, is a combination of non-vi molecules.
The first reference about artificial chemistry comes from a paper written by John McCaskill. In that paper it was an artificial life model was presented at the Second International Conference of Artificial Life.
Several studies have been conducted in Japan and Germany have developed many models of artificial life. Jens Ziegler showed that artificial chemistry can be used to control a robot. Among other models, Peter Dittrich made a model “Seceder” he was able to explain the formations of groups in society through some simple rules.
Artificial chemistry is often used in the study protobiologiei, in an attempt to make a connection between chemistry and biology.
